Georgia Visible Emissions / Opacity Standard

The opacity limit for Georgia is 40% opacity (general visible emission standard), as established under Ga. Comp. R. & Regs. 391-3-1-.02(2)(b)1..

Compliance is demonstrated via EPA Method 9 (observers must be certified by EPD or EPA).

Averaging period: 6-minute average; certified evaluator observations required

Georgia's general visible emissions standard is 40% — one of the higher general state standards. Observers must be certified by criteria approved by the Division or EPA. The regulation notes that a source-specific opacity standard may be established through permitting.
